Ultimate Reset Phase 2: Day – 10

After reading those words it was like a light switched on in my head.

One of the topics this week in my fitness accountability group is “Me time”.  What do we do for ourselves?  When we live such crazy busy lives, its not always easy to find time to do something just for ourselves. I have a long commute to and from work everyday.  I used to just listen to talk radio on my ride in and music on my ride home. When I became a coach, I was introduced to personal development books. At first I was a little skeptical. My first thought was, you want me to read self help books?!  Why?  But then someone dear to me told me to google the word personal development and this is what I read.

The Meaning of Personal Development:  Personal development covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.

After reading those words it was like a light switched on in my head.  I realized, I want all of those things in life. I want to be more successful, a better leader, inspiring, happier, and most of all, I want to leave a mark in this world. We all have a purpose in life and personal development will help you find it.

So, now every morning and afternoon while driving in the car, I do something just for me.  I listen to an audible personal development book. These books help set my mood for the day. They push me to step out of my comfort zone and achieve my goals. It also teaches me how to manage my time, how to grow in life, and to be grateful for everything I have.  Listening to these books have calmed me down BIG time while driving. I am no longer in a rush all the time. I don’t get annoyed or pissed off at impatient crazy drivers. I just stay calm and take my time.

Since a lot of us coaches enjoy the same books. My team and I started a personal development book club. We vote on one book each month. We take notes and have weekly discussions about our biggest takeaways and favorite quotes, all while getting to know each other better. This month’s book is 5 Levels of Leadership by John C. Maxwell.  I am really enjoying this book so far. There is lots of great information and learning tools. I highly recommend reading it.

Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others. John Maxwell

Today’s been another great day. I am feeling a little bloated and constipated but everyone says thats normal during this phase because of the detox drink.  Ughh…the detox drink. I’ve been drinking it for three days now and I still am not used to it. I don’t think, I ever will be. It literally slides down my throat. Just thinking about it makes me think I’m tasting it. Yuck!  At least I had a bunch of yummy meals today. Breakfast was 3 cups of fruit salad.  Lunch was sweet potato & roasted red pepper soup with a microgreens salad and toasted pumpkins seeds. Dinner will be black beans and rice with veggies.

Tuesday nights are one of my favorite nights of the week. I get to spend an hour on a face to face call with my fitness family. We share our success for helping others and areas where we can grow in our lives. We talk about how to balance working a full time job, raising a family, and being a successful fitness coach.
